Workforce Development
AGC considers “workforce development” as a broad term that encompasses both those activities that encourage students in elementary, middle or high school to consider the potential of a career in construction and those that help prepare young people for their first jobs in the industry, either through craft training or a two or four-year degree. Industry recruitment and retention are essential to the future of the construction industry. Just as important as finding craft workers, project managers and supervisors is ensuring that these essential workers are properly educated and trained.
Since 2000, the AGC of Ohio Education Foundation has awarded more than $475,000 in scholarships. AGC divisions and members have the opportunity to sponsor scholarships under their name through the Education Foundation with a one-time donation of $20,000.
Currently, the Education Foundation offers 29 scholarships to students pursuing construction-related degrees at colleges or universities. Recipients are chosen by a panel of construction professionals based on criteria including their cumulative GPA, work experience, extracurricular activities and achievements, financial need, and a personal essay. |
